As pharmacists we’re trained to understand medicine and we’re trained to understand skin. As a profession, we have a history of more than 900 years of developing and preparing dermatological agents. That’s a lot of accumulated wisdom.
Once upon a time, a cream for the skin would have been considered a ‘medicine’ and in the realm of a pharmacist to create. Today, a similar cream would be considered a ‘cosmetic’ and be the responsibility of an industrial chemist and a marketing department to create. Many modern creams are cheap, smell nice, look nice, feel nice and will last on the shelf for many years.
Unfortunately, there is no substitute for a pharmacist’s knowledge and experience in developing and preparing skincare products. When a pharmacist designs a cream, it is created with a true understanding of human physiology, biochemistry and histology. Every ingredient is analyzed and used only if it is of benefit to enhancing the health of the skin. A pharmacist will be able to tell you in detail what every ingredient used is and why they have used it. A pharmacist will be able to adapt your skincare to include or exclude virtually any ingredient you chose.
When a pharmacist prepares your personal skincare product, you have a professional with 900 years of acquired skills and knowledge at your service. You won’t receive a run of the mill cosmetic cream, you will receive the work of a true skincare professional that will make your skin the healthiest its ever been.
